Whimsical and often witty illustrations of gentle creatures grace the facing pages of each these Aesop-like fables, complete with the ending moral. Easy to read, neither to long nor too short, and the kids like the pictures of animals in human clothing and situations. However, a few stories are rather contrived, and one or two morals needed a good deal more explanation than the story alone could provide. Since there are twenty tales, however, there is still much to recommend in this volume. Both my boys give it a thumbs up (they`re five- and seven-years-old.) The hardcover edition would probably make a good gift.
